Barnes Crossing opens its doors in summer to new blood. The initials MAD stand for Movement and Art Development. One of the 2011 participants reflected that the initials could also stand for "possibility to think differently" (in the German language). The press decided on titles such as crazy and manic but also practice for an emergency.
The MAD Festival offers young choreographers space and atmosphere to work for 7 days on short productions culminating in a festival performance. New works and/or development of already existing pieces of a length between 10 and 15 minutes are shown. MAD is a springboard to professionalization for talented newcomers. In addition to, in the forefront dramaturgical and technical support, the MAD participants obtain artistic experience and contacts including professional advertising material and the compiling of a press report at the end of the festival.
Those interested in dance get to see the whole spectrum of new dance during the MAD festival.
